Ponte Vecchio


There is no doubt that Florence is one of the most visited Italian cities. It is the city divided in two by the Arno river and its bridges are true masterpieces of art. There are six bridges and they all share centuries of history. Ponte Vecchio is the oldest and the most famous medieval bridge which crosses the Arno River since the 12 th century. The bridge was mentioned in Inferno by Dan Brown and in Giacomo Puccini aria O Mio Babino Caro. The bridge history is very long and the most popular legend about it says that if a couple attach a padlock to the surface of the famous bridge and after they throw away the key, their love will last forever. This tradition is called "love locks" and is practiced in several countries on famous bridges. Millions of couples come here and lock their love for eternity.
